As the weather begins to warm, and the days get a little longer, we all start daydreaming of the fun that’s just around the corner. Having been cooped up indoors the past few months has given us all ample time to envision the activities ahead of us, and the excitement that awaits in the coming months. We’ve helped to make your job a bit easier this year, by compiling a list of the 8 best things to do in Kansas City this spring.
1. Kauffman Stadium and the Royals
Once again, Kansas City’s very own historic Kauffman Stadium opens its gates to another season of the “Boys In Blue”, as we cheer on our hometown team in their quest for to another World Series. In this, the Royals 46th season at Kauffman Stadium, as fans, we can watch our boys as they come out of the gates on Opening Day against the division rivals, the Chicago White Sox, followed up with home stands later in the spring by the Angels, Mariners, and the always tough, New York Yankees. Head on out for a cold one, and enjoy the fresh spring air, a few ballpark peanuts, and even let the kiddos try for a home run at the Little K.
2. Starlight Theater
There are few things in Kansas City that can top a beautiful spring night at Starlight, while enjoying a broadway show or catching a concert from some of the best musicians in the industry. This year promises not to disappoint, as the calendar is packed with awesome shows to lead off the new season. There’s a little something for everyone this spring, as the production of “On Your Feet” The Emilio and Gloria Esteban Musical hits the stage, followed by every girls favorite, “Dirty Dancing”, the musical. After all, “Nobody puts Baby in the corner”! And if your a concert buff, the Barenaked Ladies are sure to rock the stage!.
3. The KC Farmers Market
Since its inception in 1857, the City Market has been one of the largest and most enduring public farmers’ markets in the Midwest, with farmers from the Kansas City region bringing their fresh fruits and vegetables straight to the community each and every week. Rain or shine, the region’s largest Farmers’ Market can be found at the City Market every Saturday and Sunday, with more than 150 vendor stalls guaranteed to delight your senses with their plants, fruits, vegetables, meats, herbs, fresh baked goods and sweets, in addition to fresh cut flowers and arts and crafts, made by local artisans. What better place to come smell the fresh spring air, get a little exercise, take in some awesome deals, and even get your people watching fix on, all while supporting local farmers!
4. Grinders In The Crossroads
Even before their appearance on the hit TV show Diners, Dives, and Drive-ins, Stretch, the owner, has been bringing his love of art, alcohol, food, and Rock-N-Roll to the people of Kansas City, and is geared up and ready for another wild year in 2018. Stopping into Grinders in the KC Crossroads is a must this spring, especially during First Fridays art exhibitions. Grab a slice of New York-style pizza, an authentic Philly cheese steaks, or tempt your fate with the world famous Death Wings. Be sure to wash it all down with a cold beer, while catching a live concert out back on the main stage. 5. Loose Park
Boasting 75 acres of outdoor enjoyment, one can get lost on a warm spring day strolling around this historic park, situated in the heart of Kansas City. The park has something for everyone, from jogging on the trails, or joining up for a game of soccer or frisbee, you can exercise till your heart’s content. For the families out there, the park offers huge playgrounds, rock walls, and a free water spray park if it gets too hot for you. For the romantics out there, having an afternoon picnic and just lying on a blanket while looking at the clouds is a great way to get lost in an afternoon. Finally, as the sun begins to set, be sure to taking a stroll through the rose garden, or even get your picture taken on the wooden bridge that crosses the lake. This fully enclosed, 1.5-acre park provides a great place for your furry friend to play, exercise and socialize, in the safe confines of the park. In order to visit the park, you must be a member, but fear not, as the yearly fee is only $5. With the membership, you have access to the benches, stunning views of the west bottoms and the Missouri River, park stairs, a shade pavilion with picnic tables, key fob entry, disposal bags and receptacles and two drinking fountains. Thanks to this beautiful park, you can now allow your dog to run free, off their leash, without fear of violating leash laws, getting lost, or running into traffic.
