Remember that time you ditched out on your mom, just to grab a few meaningless drinks with the gals after work? Maybe you even faked that 12 hour flu bug in order to skip out on dinner with grandma, just to stay at home in your pj’s all night, and catch up on the last season of Game of Thrones? Well little did you or any of us know, that by skipping out on them, you may very well have shortened their life expectancy by over 9%, if not more? No, we’re not kidding! In a six year study performed on more than 1,600 people over the age of 60, it was found that factors associated with loneliness increased the risk of death by over 23%!YIKES!!! In addition, that very same study revealed that of those 1,600+ participants, 32% of them reported feeling a lack of companionship, while 25% habitually felt left out, and even still, 18% of those who participated said that they felt isolated and alone at some point in time. While we’re definitely not trying to be morbid in the writing of this article, we feel it is an impactful way to make a meaningful point. Spending quality time with loved ones, especially those over the age of 60, has been scientifically proven to have a direct impact and correlation on their life expectancy; and furthermore, in their overall quality of life in general.

While there are many benefits of art, especially that of painting, evidence continues to show that it is now undeniably proven to have even more positive effects on us all. Yet we still fail to recognize the true power painting can have on the young and old alike. From boosting our self esteem, and increasing dopamine levels in our brains, to helping those who have suffered from physical injuries, who have once again regained control and movement in appendages that were once lost. Painting and art can even help to keep our brains from premature aging and deterioration, as it has been shown to prolong the effects of Alzheimer’s and Dementia in many patients, thanks to the cognitive benefits that this creative activity provides us.

So the next time you are thinking about skipping out on that dinner with mom, or stopping by to say hi to grandma, and instead choosing to go out with the girls; or even on that hot date, remember; only you have the power to help prolong their life expectancy! We suggest the best solution to this problem is by tackling two birds with one stone. Host your very own Apple Pie Painting party and invite mom, or just attend one instead, and bring her along! Not only will you and your group be inspired by the power of painting, but you’ll also experience the ability to create memories and laughter with loved ones and friends, and who knows, possibly even extend their life in the process!

We truly hope that in reading this, it has not been a disservice to you or your loved ones, but rather, an informative wake up call for all of us, not just those over the age of 60. With that being said, now is the time of action, when we all cease upon the moment, and decide to spend more quality time with those that matter the most, and keep mom breathing for another day! But in all seriousness, and more importantly, isn’t now the time to host a painting party with your friends and family, in the comfort of your own home, as you share in an engaging and fun activity that science proves, will help to prolong all of our lives? From all of us here at Apple Pie Painting, we wish everyone out there a long and fruitful life, and as always… Be Bold! Have Fun!!
